Heritage support for back extension

Grade II* listed building in Wandsworth

The owners wanted to replace the existing back extension. They aspired for a generous kitchen and dining that could accommodate family and friends.

The client’s architect reached for the Historic Building Studio to act as a heritage consultant for the project. Advising on the best layout and materiality, the proposal was respectful to the historic fabric while achieving the client’s goals.

The proposal for this project obtained Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent in 2021. You can read more about this project here.

Client's review

It was a real pleasure to work with Eva. We learnt so much about our own house that Eva’s report is now a family heirloom!

Her research has helped us fashion our own project and given us confidence that the planning officer will see things like we do. All of that with the utmost professionalism.

Heritage advice for fit-out

Grade II listed building in Westminster

Historic Building Studio was hired as heritage consultant to produce a heritage risk assessment for an American company wanting to lease a property in central London. Following this assessment, heritage advice was provided to the design team for the fit-out.

Client's representative review

“A tech client of ours needed advice on changes they could make to a listed building in London that would allow them to upgrade things to function as a business whilst being sympathetic to it’s heritage.  We were recommended Eva, who was brought on as our Heritage Consultant and has been extremely helpful and thorough in her research, and has been instrumental in helping us liaise with the Landlord’s team.  All of the other design consultants on our team have mentioned to me how impressed they have been by her knowledge and attitude.  I would definitely use Eva again if I worked on another project that needed a Heritage Consultant.”

Pre-application before buying

Grade II listed building in Tower Hamlets

Historic Building Studio collaborated with the client’s architect for this project. Together we prepared a proposal for Pre-application submission. The client and I attended work together on the presentation of the meeting with the officers at Tower Hamlets council.

The meeting provided key information on developing a further proposal for a Planning and Listed Building Consent application.

Client's review

“Eva did a fantastic job with the preparation of our pre-application to the council of Tower Hamlets. The report she wrote and the in-depth analysis she did was instrumental in getting the right inputs (and responses) from the planning directors.

Professional, easy to work with and available. I cannot recommend her enough.
Thanks Eva!”

The communication with Eva was excellent. She always responded promptly, providing a great level of detail. Heritage report

Grade II listed building in Haringey

The client’s architect invited Historic Building Studio to collaborate as a heritage consultant to develop a new building adjacent to a listed building and refurbish the latter.

Client's review

“Eva guided us during the application process. She produced a comprehensive heritage statement for our grade II listed, indicating which repairs were needed and how to tackle them. She also advised on the planning application for the land adjacent to the listed building and assisted during the discharge of conditions.”

Certificate for roof replacement grade II listed building

Roof replacement and repairs

Grade II listed building in Hackney

The client required a roof replacement as soon as possible after discovering that the roof at their new house was failing. The repairs were so extensive that replacement was the right path to guarantee a weathertight roof for 100 years more.

Historic Building Studio advised the client on the best strategy to obtain faster permission from the local authority. The cost and time invested in the production of documents were reduced by using a Certificate of Lawfulness instead of applying for planning and listed building consent

Following the roof works the client requested an internal refurbishment and a new door to open towards the garden. Historic Building Studio acted as the heritage consultant and agent for the application.

Client's review

Eva was fantastic. In addition to successfully getting the approval for works on our replacement roof, she advised us on the most efficient and economical way to obtain the necessary permissions. I recommend Historic Building Studio and look forward to working with them again in the future!

Jeremy Same, Grade II listed building owner in Hackney

A Certificate was obtained in 2022 and further listed building consent in 2023.
